Reported July 8th 2009
With the last week being very sunny and stable it has been a nice change. The winds have been moderate so it has been fairly easy to fish most spots without trying to stay out of it.
The trout bite has started to pick up. We have been having most of our success outside sandy bays in around sixty feet of water. Small jigging spoons and three or four inch tube jigs in white has been our best producer. While the bite is picking up it certainly has not been on fire. We started to fish areas even if we did not mark fish because in the sixty feet of water it seemed like they came in from along way as three out of the five fish we landed in the morning were not seen on the graph. Moving around will certainly increase hook ups.
Walleyes have started to move to the reefs and humps. Twelve to twenty five foot humps have been producing well. Usually at this time of year leeches start to take over the bite but it seems minnows have been the better choice lately. We are still seeing a few walleyes in the weeds but these have been smaller fish as of late.
Muskies have been good despite the clear skies the last few days. Reports of a fifty two and a fifty six incher came in and reportedly caught over on Lake of the Woods. We have received this info from a reliable source and from talking to anglers the bite has been fairly good. On Crow we have downsized our baits to a number five spinner and this increased our hookups and follows.
Pike have been good in Whitefish and reports of good days keep coming. We will do our best to deep you posted.
